CHARLES E. NEWMAN (Retired)
Charles E. Newman, CPA, is a founding partner of Newman, Seland & Oppenheimer, LLC who has since retired. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Milligan College and a graduate degree from the University of Florida. In 1967, he joined an international public accounting firm in Chicago where he spent four years gaining experience in a variety of engagements before locating to Central Florida.
A member of the Florida Institute and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Newman has been serving small business clients in central Florida since 1971. He has represented and advised clients in such industries as construction, finance, hospitality, real estate, manufacturing, medical, retail, not-for-profit and service organizations.
Newman has been an active leader in numerous organizations and directorships. He has served on the FICPA Auditing and Accounting Committee. He serves on the board of directors of the University Club of Orlando. He is a past chairman of the Rodeway Inns Owners Council and Trust Fund, past president of the Central Florida Chapter of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and past director of the Board of Governors of the Florida Institute. He has also served as a director of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, director and audit committee chairman of Gencor International, Inc., (NASD), as well as a director of the Better Business Bureau of Central Florida.
Kurt Seland is a partner and director of audit services. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1973 with a degree in biochemistry. He attended the University of Tennessee and graduated in 1977 with a master's in microbiology and an MBA in accounting. He joined an international CPA firm in Chattanooga, Tenn. where he worked for six years on many types of businesses, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to local small businesses and their owners. He moved to Orlando in 1983 and has served his clients in accounting, auditing and tax. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and has performed investigations for the FDIC, State of Florida. Kurt has also achieved the AICPA's Defined Contribution Plans Audit Advanced Certification.
Kurt has served the community as a board member of several non-profit and youth organizations. He is a member of the AICPA and the FICPA and has served several terms on the FICPA Peer Review Committee.
Charles W. Marcussen is managing partner and the firm's assistant tax and accounting director. He received two Bachelor of Business Administration degrees from Harding University in Accounting (1999) and in Management and Marketing (1998).
A native of northern Indiana, he has worked for a large resort vacation company, an investment bank, and a small business in the Little Rock, Ark. metro area, gaining broad experience in corporate accounting and consolidations, forecasting, and small business management. Since moving to Central Florida in 2009 he has focused on tax and accounting services, ranging from small business and individuals to large multi-state and international corporations as well as assisting on auditing and attest engagements.
He is a member of the AICPA and FICPA and serves on the FICPA's Elder Planning and Support Committee. Charlie is proud to be one of Dave Ramsey TAX ELPs (Endorsed Local Providers) for the Central Florida region.
Don Hulslander is a partner in the firm , director of accounting and auditing quality control and assistant director of audit services. With over 20 years’ experience as sole practitioner as well as 10 years with an international “big four” and a regional firm in Florida, Don’s practice concentration is in auditing, forensic accounting and litigation support, CPA firm peer reviews, and tax services. His experience in accounting and auditing is diverse from that of small audits to governmental and healthcare institutions.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida School of Accounting in 1979. Don is an active member of Rotary, a Paul Harris Fellow, and serves on both the local board of the Winter Park Club and at the district level. He is a distinguished past president of Kiwanis International. He is a member of the AICPA, FICPA, and Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and serves as chairman of the FICPA’s Accounting Principles and Auditing Standards Committee.
